Rhode Island Wing

Heraldry of the RI Wing Patch

The blue edge is to represent the sky.

The silver background is to represent the metal of the aircraft.

The center red, white and blue object is the AF flashing. The star in the middle has been covered by the silhouette of the state.

The red "RI WING" and 16 are red to allude to the red epaulets we wore when the wing was founded.

RI WING obviously identifies the wing.

The 16 refers to the Army Air Corp designation. We were in the First Army Group (now call Northeast Region) and we were the sixth wing alphabetically.
